Travel Blog: Now in English!

You wanted it – so here it is!!

New York. They say its the city yhat never sleeps, which definitly is as a true statement.

We arrived monday at approx. 1300 where Martin and Jesper greeted us at the Royal Park Hotel. We weren’t able to check in before 1500, so we decided, after storing our luggage in their broom closet of a room, to go wandering about in the city – mostly around times square. Around dinner time we really didn’t feel up to much of anything, this resulted in us going to McDonalds – not that innovative, but none the less filling. Before we returned to the hotel we made an attempt at buying some beer and against our hopes and expectations we succeded!

Tuesday we all got up a little late, maybe, just maybe, due to the fun and good times we had enjoying a cold beer and catching up on everything, especially considering the very different things we had experienced in to very different places of the country. A little after noon were we finally able to leave the hotel and head out. We had already the evening before gone on-line and ordered something called a New York City Pass, this pass granted us acces to must of the big NYC attractions (actually pretty much all of the things we did and saw!). The passes were picked up at Planet Hollywood on Times Square. Our first experience was more a splash than an actual blast It was a turbo charged, great, big and fierce speed boat that took us out on waters at high speed. It was alot of fun. The crew of the speed boat joked around, played with water and the ride was accompanied by rock song such Iron Man and Smoke on the Water – this all added on to the experience. A big ol’ hoot and a holler!
We had to return to the hotel after the ride, seeing that our mutual friend Marie arrived. She accompanied us durring the whole stay in the Big Apple. After the sun went down we headed out to The Empire State Building by night. This was a great discission. It was so beautiful with the lights and all, you really got an appreciation of how big the whole city is. We got to see all of this from the 102nd story.
The day and night was finished of with a meal at Wendy’s – Marc, Martin and Jesper all had to try The Baconator, but I, having had that experience before, was wise enough and had a regular burger.

Wednesday was the day we visited The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. It was a day with alot of standing in line! At first we had planned on doing it Tuesday , but we never got up in time. This was not the case this time, so we were able to head out early enough and take the south bound metro to the tip of Manhatten. After retrieving out tickets we had to go stand in long line for the security check, before being alowed on to the boat. The boat wasn’t the biggest in the world , but they sure did their best to stowe us on it – all most like cattle. The statue was bigger than first anticipated, quite impressive actually. But having already seen it, it wasn’t all that great. People everywhere, which is of course what you get when going to the biggest attractions of NYC. The same ferry that transported us to Liberty Island moved us onwards to Ellis Island. We were told that 1 in 3 Americans can trace their history back to Ellis Island, which means that some of you, reading this blog, will be able to.
Finally returning to the island of Manhatten meant that we could go to our last turist stop of the day: The Museum of Sex. It was actually quite an entertaining museum yet also very sober, but I’ll recomend that individuals don’t go there with their parrents, that would be way akward! Our initial plan after the Museum of sex was to go eat at Hooters, but seeing that we all are gentlemen, we weren’t going to let Marie suffer in silence! Instead we found that we were craving and the only place to satisfy your cravings is White Castle. So we got a “Crave Case” consisting of 15 Cheeseburgers and 15 regular burgers, they all had the shape of a Crystal burger, but only a little smaller. It was one big feast that ended our long day of turisting!

Satisfaction of the cravings!

Thursday we dedicated to The Museum of Natural History and Circle Line Harbor Lights Cruise. There’s actually not much to say about the museum other than of course how spectacular their exhibits are! We spent about 4-5 hours in the museum and saw an Imax Movie. The museum had 4 stories to it and on the top was the dinosaur exhibition. which, when we reached it, closed. It sucked! After the great dissapointment we headed to pier 83 and our Harbor Lights Cruise. Our third time to see Manhatten from the water, but our first time to see it by night from the water. The cruise had a guide who mumbled more then I’ve ever heard someone mumble before!
The evening was finished of with a meal at Dallas BBQ of Time Square – The biggest and non-personal dinning experience I have ever had!

On the Harbor Lights Cruise

Friday we split up, the reason being that of different priorities. Martin and Jesper wanted to go to the Bronx Zoo and the rest of us, Marc, Marie and I, did an art tour: starting with The Metropolitan then heading to the Museum of Modern Art and finishing it of at The Guggenheim where we met up with Martin and Jesper.
The Met is probably the best art mueseum I’ve ever experienced! They had everything and everything they had was litteraly the best! Their collection ranged from ancient greek and roman sculptures to very provocative modern art.
The MoMA was also pretty good, but still had a tendency to be a little too random! But then again if you dig the most modern of modern art, you would really enjoy MoMa. Although they did have one interesting exhibition by a guuy named Olafur. He had done alot of studies on light and was now presenting them.
The Guggenheim was a great big dissapointment. They were in between exhibitions! So only to shows were open to the public. One made by kids and another small one with nothing of real interest. AND they had closed the spiral walkway!

Saturday we went to the NY Police Museum. It was alright. The best thing about it was their showcases on the Mafia and older criminals. It was pretty entertaining. But apart from that it didn’t have much to offer.
Marie went shopping while we went to the museum. Martin wanted to see Manhatten by helicopter, so while They went to check on prices and schedules, Marc and I went to see ” Bodies… The Exhibition”. Great exhibition, it was really fantastic seeing how they had disolved a whole leg only leaving all the red blood vessels of leg behind. The only shady part of it, was that all of the bodies where asian looking – thought provocing!!
The thing with the helicopter didn’t work. 1. it was very expencieve 2. they had stopped flying for the rest of the day. So we headed for the last stop of the day, after meeting up with Marie, which was Chinatown and Little Italy. Chinatown was all that I expected: hectic, busy, smelly and small stores all over side-by-side selling copies all kinds of name brands. It had some charm and alot of stink! Little Italy was defininetly alot nicer and mostly restaurants on all streets. This was also the place where we decided to have dinner. They make some pretty tasty pizza.

Last but not least the trip to Chinatown and Little Italy

Sunday was also spent in two groups. Jesper and Martin went to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens while the rest went shopping. We started in Macy’s, a place so big you can get lost in a matter of no time! Unbelievable! Finishing of in Macy’s we split up again, mostly because Marc and I didn’t have much to do in stores such as Victorias Secret and similar (Yes, I know what you are thinking and yes, Victorias Secret would be fun for just a little while, but after  to many bikinies and thongs it would most likely get a little boring!). We wanted to see and shop a little in SoHo, so that was pretty much what we did.
Returning to the hotel we really wanted to go out and have some NY pizza and Cheese cake, but considering the fact that we had been going non stop for a whole week we decided to take it easy and have some beer – we didn’t know if we would be able to get any in california.
